1967 LOLA T70 MkIII SL73/103
T70 MkIII SL73/103 is now owned by Emanuele Barone Muzj di Fontecchio who bought it from Keith Newcombe in 2018 and details of its ownership and race history can be seen below. Not only is SL73/103 a wonderful race car it has been adapted to allow it to be road registered.
Modifications include:
There are now three fans to give sufficient cooling in traffic conditions.
Indicators, a speedometer and road tyres have been added.
Extra brake calipers at the rear to permit a hydraulic handbrake system. Extra cooling ducts for the rear calipers were added.
At the back Lucas parts were used for the lights and what look like spotlights on the front are the indicators.
Simpson Race Exhausts of Slough constructed a bespoke exhaust system with silencers constructed from hand-rolled stainless steel sheet.
The standard racing alternator just above the gearbox was only intended to provide enough electrical output while the car was in motion. To ensure adequate charging in slow-moving traffic, a secondary alternator has been fitted at the front of the right-hand bank of cylinders and is driven off the crankshaft by a specially made billet aluminium double pulley.
As the engine sits so close to the driver a new bulkhead made from two layers of Kevlar for added protection has been added.
The suspension is raised slightly to enable the Lola to clear road humps without damaging its underside. The shocks absorbers are adjustable to allow "road" and "race" settings.
The Chevrolet V8 is a full-race 5.9-litre unit with four Weber 48 IDAs, and all its components are racing parts.
